Research based on nearly 2\,000 organisations and over 70\,000 data points shows that failure is often caused by three misconceptions: HR must first become more strategic\, upskilling alone will change HR work\, and new technologies like AI will automatically transform HR. In reality\, transformation fails mainly due to a lack of execution capacity—misalignment between systems\, structures\, skills\, and stakeholder expectations. Successful HR transformation depends on five factors: aligning HR’s purpose and value\, building the right operating model\, developing targeted capabilities\, managing stakeholders\, and embedding mechanisms that keep transformation on track as the organisation evolves.
